OpenAI just lost the executive who was overseeing one of the most consequential jobs at the company: building the data centers its entire business depends on. Chris Malone, OpenAI's head of data centers, departed last week according to the Wall Street Journal, becoming at least the 14th notable executive to leave the company in 2026. He joined in March 2025 after nearly five years at Meta and over a decade at Google, right after OpenAI unveiled Stargate, its data-center joint venture with Oracle and SoftBank.
Meanwhile, two very different AI startups grabbed real money today. A hearing tech company just showed off AI-powered smart glasses, and a small team in Bengaluru is betting that AI agents shouldn't just help you build a business, they should help you grow it too.

• OpenAI's Data Center Chief Just Became Its 14th Executive Exit This Year
Chris Malone, who led OpenAI's data center strategy since joining from Meta in March 2025, departed last week, the Wall Street Journal first reported. His exit follows Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser, COO Brad Lightcap, and applications lead Fidji Simo, all gone within the past few months. OpenAI said it had "recently reorganized" its infrastructure team, with VP Sachin Katti now overseeing the group. Why it matters: this is happening right as OpenAI pushes toward a planned 2027 IPO and a roughly $600 billion compute spending target, and a data-center leadership vacuum lands at an unusually costly moment to have one.

• A Hearing Tech Startup Unveiled AI Glasses Built for the Other 80%
Legato emerged from stealth today with $12 million in funding and a first look at Legato Frames, glasses that build the company's hearing-assistance technology directly into the arms of eyewear. Roughly 50 million American adults have hearing loss, but only about 20% seek treatment, and founders Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine both spent years at Bose, Trivedi leading Bose Frames and later Meta Ray-Bans, before founding Legato in late 2024. The glasses launch this fall.
• An AI Startup Is Betting It Can Grow Your Business, Not Just Build It
Runable raised $21 million at a $65 million valuation, co-founder Umesh Kumar told TechCrunch, after growing from zero to a $2 million annualized revenue run rate within three weeks of launching payments in March. The 15-person Bengaluru team's agent already builds websites and apps from plain-language prompts, and is now expanding into running ad campaigns, managing social media, and optimizing how a business shows up in AI chatbot results. "A business doesn't require Codex or Claude Code... they require real outcomes," Kumar said.

Use Slash Commands to Skip the Typing
If you use Claude Code, typing / opens a menu of built-in shortcuts that skip a lot of repetitive typing. Most people only ever type prompts by hand and never discover these exist, even though they're sitting right there every session.
A few genuinely useful ones, confirmed straight from Anthropic's own documentation:
/compact — when a long session starts filling up the context window, this compresses the conversation history into a summary instead of forcing you to start over. Add instructions to steer what it keeps, like /compact focus on the auth module and the failing tests.
/clear — wipes the conversation history clean when you're starting a genuinely new task and don't want old context bleeding into it.
/review — requests a code review on demand, instead of writing out "please review this code for bugs, security issues, and readability" every time.
/init — sets up a CLAUDE.md file for your project, a memory file Claude reads automatically in future sessions so you don't have to re-explain your codebase's conventions each time.
/model — lets you switch which model you're working with mid-session, useful when a task suddenly needs more reasoning power than a quick fix does.
/permissions — lets you view or adjust what Claude Code is allowed to touch, worth checking before you hand it a task on a sensitive repo.
