• Apple wants a judge to keep OpenAI out of its trade secrets
Apple filed for a preliminary injunction against OpenAI and two former Apple employees, Chang Liu and Tang Yew Tan - who now work there, seeking to bar them from accessing, using, or disclosing anything tied to Apple's confidential information, plus depositions from OpenAI and its hardware arm, io Products. OpenAI responded the same night, denying it has or wants any of Apple's trade secrets.
• Texas just hit pause on new AI data centers
Governor Greg Abbott ordered the state's Public Utility Commission and ERCOT to audit every proposed data center for its tax breaks, power and water use, and community impact before granting any new grid connection. ERCOT is tracking more than 1,800 projects in its interconnection queue, roughly 90% of them data centers, representing over five times the grid's current peak demand.

CrowdStrike's 2026 Threat Hunting Report, released August 3, found China-linked groups now exploiting newly disclosed vulnerabilities within 24 hours, and a North Korean operator (STARDUST CHOLLIMA) injecting malicious code into 131 trusted AI-framework packages. In one incident, attackers fired nearly 200,000 AI model requests in just two minutes.

OLIX Raises $312 Million Series B
London-based photonic-chip startup OLIX (formerly Flux Computing) closed a $312 million Series B at a $3.3 billion valuation — more than triple where it stood in February. The round was led by Fundomo, with Arm, Hudson River Trading, and Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings also participating. OLIX builds Optical Tensor Processing Units, full silicon-to-software hardware aimed at making frontier AI inference dramatically faster using light instead of pure electronics.
Intelligence Raises $7.9 Million Seed at $60 Million ARR
Intelligence, the startup behind AI design-evaluation platform DesignArena, raised a $7.9 million seed led by Index Ventures, with Conviction, A*, and Valkyrie also joining. The platform already draws 5.3 million users voting on head-to-head comparisons of AI-generated designs, and sells that human feedback data back to frontier labs — a small round attached to an unusually large $60 million in annual revenue already in hand.
