Welcome, busybees.
It's a quieter Saturday on the AI news front, so today we're catching up on two stories that are still developing and worth understanding properly, plus real jobs across product, people, marketing, and engineering you can apply to today.
Anthropic just hired someone whose entire career has been about navigating exactly the kind of pressure AI companies are under right now. Tino Cuéllar, a former California Supreme Court justice and the outgoing president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, is joining as Anthropic's first-ever Chief Global Affairs Officer.
He'll run policy and government relationships worldwide, reporting directly to President Daniela Amodei, at a moment when Anthropic is dealing with export controls, a Pentagon dispute, and governments everywhere trying to figure out how to regulate frontier AI. And OpenAI escalated its fight with Apple this week, filing a 31-page motion that calls Apple's trade-secrets lawsuit "rotten to its core" and accuses Apple of suing to cover for its own AI shortcomings, the word "fail" reportedly appears about 50 times in the filing. A hearing is set for October 1.
Here’s what happened in AI today:
• Anthropic brings on a former state supreme court justice as its first Chief Global Affairs Officer.
• OpenAI calls Apple's lawsuit "rotten to its core" in a 31-page motion to dismiss.
• A new report traces the real fault lines behind this week's DeepMind leadership shake-up.
• Mathematicians are still pushing back on OpenAI's disputed math "breakthroughs" from last week.
…and a whole lot more that you can read about below.
• Anthropic Hires Its First Chief Global Affairs Officer
Anthropic just built out its policy team with one of the most credentialed hires in AI governance. Tino Cuéllar steps into the newly created Chief Global Affairs Officer role after stepping down as president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and after years as a California Supreme Court justice ruling on technology and privacy cases. He's also spent the last several months as a trustee of Anthropic's own Long-Term Benefit Trust, so this isn't an outside hire learning the company from scratch. His mandate: manage Anthropic's relationships with governments everywhere, at a time when the company is fighting export restrictions and navigating an unsettled relationship with Washington.
• OpenAI Calls Apple's Lawsuit "Rotten to Its Core"
OpenAI stopped playing defense against Apple and went on offense instead. OpenAI filed a 31-page motion to dismiss Apple's trade-secrets lawsuit outright, arguing the case is "rotten to its core" and telling the court Apple is using litigation to make up for its own struggles shipping competitive AI features. A hearing on the motion is scheduled for October 1.

How to Get Past an AI Resume Screener
Most job applications today get read by an AI filter before a human ever sees them. Most people don't know how to write for that filter, here's the fix.

Prompt of the Day
The "Interview Story Bank" Prompt
Use this before any interview. Most people freeze up trying to remember examples on the spot, this turns your work history into ready-to-tell stories in advance, in the format interviewers actually want to hear.
System Role: An interview coach who has sat on the hiring side of the table.
Objective: Turn my raw work experience into 3-4 sharp STAR-format stories tailored to this specific role.
Constraints: Each story needs a real number or concrete outcome, not a vague claim like "improved efficiency." Flag if I've given you too little detail to make a story land, and ask for what's missing.
Format:
The Story: Situation, Task, Action, Result, in 4-5 sentences total.
Best Fit For: Which likely interview question this answers.
The Follow-Up: One question they'll probably ask next, so I'm ready for it.
