Salesforce unveiled Koa today, its first reasoning model, built on Nvidia's open-weight Nemotron and trained specifically for sales, marketing, and customer support work. The pitch is a direct shot at the frontier labs' entire business model: no customer data required to train it, fewer tokens burned to do the same job, and an open-weight alternative enterprises can run without sending files and prompts into someone else's closed system. "We have no idea what Qwen trains on," Salesforce AI EVP Jayesh Govindarajan told TechCrunch, explaining why Nvidia's American, transparently-sourced base model finally made building this possible.

Meanwhile, Jensen Huang took a very different kind of call yesterday. Mid-panel at the All-In Summit, Trump phoned in live and told Huang the weekend's AI safety warnings from Amodei, Altman, and Musk were "a hoax." Huang's reply, over speakerphone to a cheering crowd: "You're right. We're not going to let that happen, sir."

Salesforce unveiled Koa today at Dreamforce, its first reasoning model, built on Nvidia's open-weight Nemotron base and post-trained specifically for sales, marketing, and customer-support tasks. Salesforce and Nvidia didn't train Koa on real customer data at all, instead simulating customer service environments, complete with irate callers and sales reps closing deals, to generate synthetic training data. The pitch to enterprises is pointed: an open-weight model that can't leak customer data because it never saw any, uses fewer tokens than routing the same task to Claude or ChatGPT, and can be deployed inside a customer's own security boundary. "One of the reasons we hadn't done this before... the challenge has always been the lack of a pre-trained base model to start with," Govindarajan said. "Until Nemotron came along, there was no sovereign American pre-trained model that was available." Notably, Salesforce isn't cutting ties with the frontier labs entirely, it also announced ClaudeForce, a new partnership letting customers use Claude as an interface while data stays inside Salesforce's own systems.

While Jensen Huang was on stage at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles yesterday, he took a live call from Trump and put it on speaker for the crowd. The two discussed the weekend's rare moment of agreement between Dario Amodei, Sam Altman, and Elon Musk that AI development needs to slow down. Trump dismissed it outright: "They're just playing right in the hands of a lot of people that don't want to see it happen. That could be political people. It could also be China. And we're not going to let that happen. It's a hoax." Huang replied, "You're right. We're not going to let that happen, sir," to applause. Trump also called opposition to new data centers a "hoax," echoing a claim Y Combinator's Garry Tan has made, even though recent Gallup polling shows seven in 10 Americans oppose data centers in their own area, mostly citing environmental and cost-of-living concerns. The moment didn't calm markets: Nvidia shares fell 3.4% Monday, and a broader index of AI stocks dropped more than 4%, as investors weighed whether the safety controversy could actually slow AI infrastructure spending.

Make AI Show Its Work Before You Trust It

Ask the AI to list every factual claim, number, quote, and source in what it wrote. You'll get a better result if you paste in the original source material yourself and specifically ask it to quote the exact language from that document, so you can search for it directly. If it hands you links, open every single one yourself and search the page for the claim. If the source doesn't actually back it up, rewrite the line or cut it entirely.
