Elon Musk just committed real money to solving his own chip shortage. Tesla and SpaceX announced Terafab, a joint $16.8 billion chip factory going up in Grimes County, Texas, that Musk is calling the largest and most valuable building on Earth. It'll produce chips for Optimus robots, Cybercabs, and SpaceX's space-based data centers, and it's expected to employ at least 3,000 people locally. Tesla and SpaceX confirmed Terafab, a jointly developed chip factory in Grimes County, Texas, with a $16.8 billion initial investment and more than 100 million square feet of planned manufacturing space. The site will combine chip design, memory, packaging, and testing in one location, producing chips for Tesla's Optimus robots and Cybercabs and for SpaceX's planned space-based data centers. The companies say it'll create at least 3,000 local jobs, and Texas kicked in a $30 million state grant to help land it.

A New Mexico court ordered Meta to pay $567 million into a teen mental-health fund and, for the next five years, follow a strict set of rules: no romantic or sexualized chatbot conversations with anyone under 18, no notifications for teens during school hours or late at night, and private-by-default teen accounts. It adds to $375 million Meta was already ordered to pay in March, bringing its total in this case to nearly $942 million.

Mathematicians including Steven Miller of Yeshiva University say OpenAI's celebrated claim that its Astra model solved 10 decades-old math problems overstated its case, and that a key sphere-packing proof relied on Miller's own uncredited 2016 research. OpenAI has since softened its original wording, which claimed the problems had seen "no progress... for at least a decade.
